Great Ocean Road Amenities

Planning an epic road trip along the Great Ocean Road? I’ve got you covered with this map that marks essential amenities along the Great Ocean Road for the entire 243 km route from start to finish.

I’ve marked key public facilities you’ll need access to – car parks , rest areas and public toilets. With this convenient guide in hand, you’ll be able to plan your dream coastal journey and keep yourself and those with you happy on the route.

The Route

An important feature on this map is the bright blue line showing the official Great Ocean Road driving route in its entirety.

Starting from Torquay on the east side, follow this magnificent route towards Allansford on the western end. Along the way, you’ll pass by world-famous Bells Beach, traverse rainforest scenery within Great Otway National Park, and reach the iconic Twelve Apostles limestone stacks. During this unforgettable journey, you’ll be treated to endless views of the deep blue ocean on one side and lush forests on the other. The road itself hugs the coastline, providing you with panoramic vistas of rugged cliffs and pristine beaches below.

The Great Ocean Road isn’t just about scenic beauty; it’s also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. The charming towns along the route, such as Lorne, Apollo Bay, and Port Campbell, offer cozy cafes, boutique shops, and delightful seafood for you to enjoy.

All in all, using the map keeps you oriented along this winding, cliff-hugging road from point A to B.

Amenities

Car Parks

To visit the famous natural landmarks, you’ll need access to parking areas. On this map, I’ve mapped out car parks you will find along the Great Ocean Road and at top attractions like Loch Ard Gorge, the Twelve Apostles, London Arch, and more.

For some of the beaches, please note that the car park is down some unassuming dirt road off the main road. You can plan for this by knowing where the car parks are using this map. Also, car parks are a great place to stretch your legs and take a break from driving as well.

Rest Areas

You will find that there are only a few designated rest areas situated near Moggs Creek which is between Aireys Inlet and Lorne. All of these rest areas have rubbish bins and water available – so quite limited. They do however allow you to pull over and take in gorgeous coastal views during your drive.

Like the car parks, they also provide the perfect place to stretch your legs, have a snack, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Great Ocean Road.

Public Toilets

When nature calls, you need to know where the public facilities are! I’ve marked public toilets in the map so you know where to make the necessary stops in those times of emergency during your road trip.

This allows you to plan toilet stops or detours if needed. You’ll find facilities at most petrol stations, near visitor centres and at the main attraction sites.

Scenic Spots

Lastly, I have included scenic spots that you might find useful. These are areas found along the Great Ocean Road that have been designated as viewpoints so you know that the views will be awe-inspiring. If you can, plan for these stops so you can take in the beauty of the coast. These spots are ones that can be found on the side or very close to the official Great Ocean Road route so you can conveniently make a quick stop during your journey.

These scenic spots allow you to focus on the present while enjoying the breathtaking views before you. Moreover, these spots offer wonderful opportunities to capture the landscape with your camera.

Tips for Using the Map

Here are some top tips for maximizing this map marked with Great Ocean Road amenities during your trip:
